Digital threats multiply as patient data becomes cybercriminals’ prime target

When a healthcare IT administrator receives a call from what appears to be a colleague requesting a password reset, the interaction seems routine. It isn’t. The caller passes multi-factor authentication because they’ve already executed a SIM swap attack, in which a victim’s phone number is switched to the attacker’s device. Within minutes, the helpdesk resets the credentials, and the attacker holds the digital keys to thousands of patient records.
